Discover Possibilities in Kansas City Dear Friends and Members of the NDSC, It is my pleasure to introduce you to the National Down Syndrome Congress annual convention and welcome you to the host city. This year is particularly gratifying as we are celebrating the convention’s 35th year. There is no better place to do this than in America’s heartland and with the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City as our host and partner. I am often asked how I find time to volunteer for this organization. My answer is simple, “How can I not?” The NDSC is filled with joyous, passionate and relentless advocates for all people with Down syndrome for the essential reason that they are family and cherished friends. As individuals and as an organization we have a single, compelling focus – to make the world a better place for every citizen with Down syndrome, and to celebrate a place in which they are honored and respected, treated with dignity, and have free and equal access to the human rights of any person. Those of us who make up the NDSC are just like you. We are Parents. Siblings. Friends. Self Advocates. We have been where you are and gone where you are going and we share the deep, abiding aspirations you have for your children and that adults with DS have for themselves. Thus, when you come to Kansas City this summer, you will find a community that is warm and welcoming, sensitive and responsive to your needs – family friendly. Above all, we will embrace each of you, inviting you to join our on-going celebration of the exquisite gifts individuals with Down syndrome bring to this world. That is what this convention is all about – learning and, above all, celebrating. Making our theme “Show Me the Possibilities” very fitting for this, our 35th anniversary year. Our convention cannot help but have a profound impact on you and your family. Please join us and experience the possibilities. Sincerely, Rich Robison, President |
