Annual Convention

How can I become involved with and support the Convention?

Outside of attending the NDSC Convention, there are various ways to contribute to the event.  We need to fill more than 600 volunteer slots to make things run smoothly.  You can also support the convention through Sponsorship and Exhibiting.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an integral part of the NDSC Convention and directly contribute to our overall success.

Volunteers are needed for a wide range of activities, with time slots available across the convention weekend.  More than 500 volunteers will join more than 3,500 attendees from around the world at this year’s convention!  Please note that volunteers are not granted access to conference workshops or social events.  Convention registration and badges are required to participate.

Youth & Adults Conference

In order to provide the best experience for the over 350 self-advocates (individuals 15 and older with Down syndrome), we need many support people over the three days.  Volunteers are not required to commit to all three days, but the consistency and familiarity created by having the same volunteers providing support throughout the conference is ideal.

No previous experience is necessary to volunteer.  Our only requirements are that volunteers be 16 years or older, be flexible, desire to interact directly with self-advocates, and be willing to have fun.

Kids’ Camp

Volunteers are needed to assist with the six sessions of Kids’ Camp held over the convention weekend.  Each session serves 150 children ages 6 weeks – 14 years.  Volunteers ensure the safety of all campers and provide support in various activities in a structured setting.  Activities will include educational and therapeutic play, arts and crafts,  physical movement, board games, entertainment, and other activities.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Throughout the weekend, general convention volunteer opportunities include assisting with registration, acting as venue guides,  session hosts, and floaters (those willing to do anything as needed).  We also greatly appreciate bilingual (Spanish/English speaking) volunteers working in various roles.
