We are at a critical moment in history. From Congressional legislation to drastically cut essential services provided by Medicaid, to a lawsuit seeking to invalidate Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act that prohibits disability discrimination, to attempts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and more, it is apparent that people with Down syndrome and other disabilities are at risk of losing rights and opportunities that we have fought so hard to obtain over the past few decades.
National Down Syndrome Congress has a longstanding history of working in a bipartisan manner and will continue to do so. We advocate for or against policies, not people. Disability issues have always been bipartisan. NDSC will continue to work with Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and others alike to educate them about critical issues for our community and encourage them to support people with Down syndrome and their families. NDSC’s effective advocacy is amplified by the National Down Syndrome Advocacy Coalition (NDAC), with 1,058 members representing all 50 states.
The NDSC Policy Team is a small group comprised of top policy experts and seasoned advocates who are passionate and committed to the work and have a history of advocacy success. We need your support to expand the team and increase the reach of our advocacy technology. To BOOST our policy and advocacy efforts, we would like to add a Policy Administrative Coordinator to assist the team in creating, promoting, and implementing NDSC research, training resources, and programs. This will free up our senior policy and advocacy experts to focus on successfully implementing NDSC’s policy priorities.
The mission of NDSC is to raise awareness and celebrate people with Down syndrome. Part of this involves advocating for the rights of people with Down syndrome. Our goal for this appeal is to raise at least $35,000, which will provide the resources to add a Policy Administrative Coordinator to our team during this critical time.
